ATEX and explosion protection

ATEX and explosion protection

Explosive atmospheres can arise in many industrial processes, from the handling of flammable gases and liquids to dust from powders and shavings. With the right hazardous area classification and explosion protection, you reduce the risk of accidents and meet the requirements of the ATEX directives. We support you at every step, from survey to finished documentation.

We carry out ATEX work in accordance with Directives 2014/34/EU and 1999/92/EC and applicable standards, and adapt the scope to your facility, from a single process unit to an entire industrial site.

In Sweden, Directive 1999/92/EC is implemented through, among other things, the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulation AFS 2023:10 for dust and SRVFS 2004:7 for flammable gases and liquids. How they differ, and what the explosion protection document must contain, is described in our article Explosionsskyddsdokumentet (in Swedish).

We can help you with, among other things

  • Hazardous area classification (zoning) for explosive gas, vapour, mist and dust according to IEC 60079-10-1 and IEC 60079-10-2
  • Risk assessment of explosion hazards and identification of ignition sources
  • Explosion protection documents
  • Consequence calculations for explosions
  • Proposals for technical and organisational protective measures
  • Review and update of existing classification and documentation when the facility is changed
